Ovadija, Esteraja Mara (1922-1944), a Jew from Bitola, worker. She joined early to the progressive workers movement in 1938, she was one of the most active members in the organizations of the progressive youth in her native city Bitola.
She was especially active in Jewish progressive youth organizations. Her revolutionary activity was enforced during her three- year stay in Belgrade, where she worked. That is the period when she met many progressive people, became member of SKOJ and participated in March demonstrations. In 1942 she became member of KPJ. In April 1943 her partisan life started in the partisan unit “Goce Delcev”. From the unit “Goce Delcev” she went to the unit “Dame Gruev, which led difficult battles with the Italian occupiers in the surrounding of Prespa Lake. She was characterized as a person with courage, determination and endurance. She proved that by her participation in the very difficult February expedition. After the end of the February movements of the units The Third Macedonia Fighting Brigade was formed and Es-treja Ovadija was appointed deputy political commissar of the unit. With the formation of The Seventh Macedonian brigade she was named a political commissar of a battalion. She was killed in 1944. She was proclaimed a national hero on 11 October 1953.
